Each year, the students of Piano Andante Music present a Summer Recital on the last Sunday in June; the recital at the close of this school year will fall on the 30th of June. It will be held at Litchfield Montessori School at Five Knife Shop Road in Northfield, Connecticut. While not mandatory, we do encourage participation.
.
REHEARSAL BEGINS at 2:00; RECITAL, at 3:00.
PERFORMERS SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF AT 2:00 FOR REHEARSAL. Parents are asked to kindly drop off (or accompany very young) students to sign in, and then return in time for the recital.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE STUDENTS' ONLY FORMAL REHEARSAL. This time prior to the recital gives them a chance to
become acclimated to their surroundings. Participants play through
their recital pieces in front of the other performers. They become
acquainted with their peers and hear familiar (and some unfamiliar) pieces played by them. Excited whispers of encouragement can be heard among them. A feeling of camaraderie forms during rehearsal...
RECITAL AT 3:00. The recital should last for about an hour.
The weather, invariably, is hot and humid each year on recital day. Please keep in mind that the performers will be seated quietly for an extended time. The young ladies always seem to be comfortable in a shift or any summer-weight outfit. Many of our young gentlemen performers do wear dress shirts and ties, but you may smile to notice that shorts and sandals often complete their outfits. If your young man will be wearing slacks, please do not insist on a sportsjacket. A nice, breezy, Sunday-afternoon attire is suitable.
FOLLOWING THE RECITAL, A RECEPTION WILL BE HELD at the same location. All performers, their families, and their invited guests are warmly encouraged to attend.
The recital reception seems to bring a happy and successful completion to the event. Here, your children experience pride when praised by their guests and by other performers and their guests.
During the reception, you might be amused to see little huddles of children at our "Next Recital Sign-up" table. Pencils in eager hands, they are noticeably proud to be discussing a common interest with this new blend of peers. Many--suddenly certain of what they want to play next year--clamor to sign up to learn pieces they just heard performed by their more-seasoned peers. This declaration of inspiration will serve as rough draft to our following year's recital program!
It is our hope that this particular Sunday each year is a convenient one for Piano Andante families. We have found, not only that many families' travel plans do not commence so early in the season, but also that the students will have had a chance to unwind just enough after the close of school.
Please let us know how many to expect from your family by June 21.
